Your location choices

Updated October 8, 2026. Dream Workshop LLC operates Photo Scout.

We ask for a selected map coordinate and photo preferences. If you click “Use my current location”, your browser requests permission to obtain your device location. We use a single location reading to fill the map and coordinates; we do not continuously track you. Selecting your location loads map tiles for that area. Submitting a search sends the selected coordinates to our service and configured providers as described below. Do not include private addresses or personal information in preferences.

Coordinates are sent to configured imagery providers (including Wikimedia Commons, Google Street View, Panoramax and optionally Mapillary) and OpenStreetMap to find nearby images and places. Preferences, image metadata and selected photographs are sent to OpenAI for visual analysis. Our agent traces and model response storage are disabled. Provider handling follows each provider's own policies.

Interactive map tiles and styles load directly from OpenStreetMap, OpenFreeMap or USGS in your browser; the selected map provider receives your IP address and requests for the viewed map area. Viewing original photos may also disclose your IP to image providers.

Paid requests, coordinates, preferences, report metadata and recommendations are stored in our database for report delivery. Report access expires after 30 days; expired records are removed by the background worker or on subsequent submissions. Source image bytes are used transiently for analysis and are not saved in the report database.

Free website searches, including place interpretation, POI lookup and image scoring, run in a server queue. Guest task data and reports expire after 7 days without a website visit; signed-in search history and reports are retained permanently. A secure, HttpOnly anonymous browser cookie identifies your tasks without requiring sign-in. Signing in associates your anonymous tasks with your account. Task access is checked against your browser session or account; task tokens are not stored in browser storage. Completed searches, their input text, selected area, POI metadata, scores and display selections are saved in browser session storage for guests, and in your account database after Google sign-in. Images and report tokens are not stored there. Switching tabs, refreshing or leaving the page does not stop accepted background tasks. On returning, the page reconnects to pending tasks and restores completed search results. All anonymous searches and generated photos are deleted after 7 days since the last website visit. Returning before then renews retention for all your guest records; hidden-tab polling and background processing do not renew it; access uses a renewable 7-day browser cookie in the same browser unless its cookies are cleared; account tasks follow your signed-in account. Local display history is also kept in browser session storage. OAuth requests only basic identity (openid, email, profile), without Drive or other Google data access. We store an application session, name and email; Google access tokens are not retained. Daily usage counters are retained to limit requests.

Natural-language requests send the question and selected map coordinate to OpenAI to interpret search intent, with model response storage disabled. Extracted place names are sent to Photon/OpenStreetMap for geocoding. The original question and resolved search parameters are retained privately with the server task until 7 days after the last website visit for guests, or permanently for signed-in accounts, and in completed search history. Payment providers may retain their own records.

Photo studio: submitting an uploaded portrait sends it and the chosen background to OpenAI for image editing. We validate and strip upload metadata. Uploads are held privately only while queued or processing and are removed on completion or failure; generated images and photo task records are retained permanently for signed-in users; guest records expire after seven days without a website visit and are removed by the worker. The generated photo is an AI composite, not proof of an actual visit. Personal uploads, job access tokens and generated photos are not added to search history. Completed photo tasks can be reopened from the Photos menu. Signing in before guest records expire transfers them to permanent account storage. OpenAI handling follows its API data policies.
